Ed and Nancy Semrud have been married 34 years and have three grown children. Their horse farm in Hugo, Minnesota, was established in 2003. They didn’t grow up with horses; it was their “horse-crazy” daughter who introduced them to the joy of horses. Soon, one horse became several, and Ed and Nancy found their wonderful addiction!
Like so many, the recession that began in 2008 impacted Ed and Nancy with unemployment, but in the difficult times, they learned to lean on the Lord. He is faithful! During those challenging years, the horses were a source of peace and rejuvenation. Their powerful presence is restorative to weary hearts, and a dream began to grow in Nancy to somehow use the horses to bless others.
In 2013, Nancy attended a three-day training at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Bend, Oregon. Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch has an amazing program to mentor children and encourage families. The training inspired the Semruds to move forward with the dream to build up others through Spirit-led horses activities. They provide the setting and the “tools,” the Holy Spirit does the work in people’s hearts.
That summer, Three Strands Horse Co. was born. Ed and Nancy chose the name based on Ecclesiastes 4:12.
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Nancy has since become certified in Equine Assisted Learning/Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, a proven methodology for reflecting human emotional and spiritual health. Non-mounted exercises use the horses as powerful metaphors unique to each participant.
As a couple, Ed and Nancy have a special passion for marriages and families. They enjoy coming alongside couples, families, and children. They look forward to welcoming you to Three Strands Horse Co. and the privilege of sharing in your journey.
